What is the Academic Outreach Initiative Code?
Since this program is offered exclusively through RN-to-BSN hospital and health care employers, an Academic
Outreach Initiative Code must be entered into the application in order to receive the preferred tuition
pricing. Please contact the RN-to-BSN Academic Outreach Initiative Program Coordinator at your health care
employer or enrollment services at 1-888-806-8081 to receive the Academic Outreach Initiative Code needed to apply.
How do I know if I have been accepted?
After your application is submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement e-mail from Ohio University. After
all required information is received, including your transcripts and RN license number, your file will be
processed. Following a full review of your application, you will receive communication from the Ohio
University School of Nursing when you are accepted into the RN-to-BSN program. Instructions on
how to enroll, download your courseware, pay your tuition, and get started will be included. The
entire process takes an average of 5-6 weeks from the date you apply until you are ready to enroll
in classes. For more information about the steps in the process, visit
http://online.ohio.edu/bsn/next.
Do you accept transfer credits into the program?
General course transfer credits will be accepted, with no age limitations, if they meet the University's
criteria. Nursing course transfer credits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by an Ohio University advisor.
How long does it take to complete the program?
The RN-to-BSN Program (nursing courses) can be completed in as little as 12 months. The time for completion
will vary by individual, depending on how many courses are taken during each term and how many credits have
already been completed toward the general education and support course requirements.
What if an emergency happens and I have to take a temporary break from the program?
We hope that the flexibility of the courseware will allow you to finish the course you are currently taking.
If you cannot continue and you withdraw from the course, you can re-enter later in the sequence and take the
course you dropped when it is re-offered. You must withdraw by the drop deadline posted under
Important Dates to receive a 'W'. To receive a full refund for the course tuition
you must withdraw before the course starts. If you cannot continue and you do not withdraw from the course
you will be charged whether or not you attend class. Please note: You must withdraw from the course(s).
The instructor is not allowed to do this for you.
Are there clinical requirements for the RN to BSN degree?
Yes. You, with your advisor's help, may arrange for clinical experiences when required by a course to do
so. The clinical requirements are not like those completed in your initial nursing program. You will not
be going to a clinical site with an instructor and a group of classmates. Some clinical requirements can
be completed in your current work environment. Others will be completed on a more individually arranged schedule.
What grades are required to graduate from the program?
A grade of "C" (2.5 on a 4.0 scale) or better must be earned in each course offered by the School of
Nursing (NRSE series). If you do not earn a grade of C, you must retake the course before progressing to
the next course in the sequence. You must maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 2.00 on a 4.00
scale to be able to graduate.
How much time per week will I have to commit to the courses?
For a 4 credit hour course you should plan to spend a minimum of 12 to 16 hours in searching, studying,
and/or writing per week. The amount of time will vary depending upon your skill in using the computer and
electronic resources, your reading style and speed, and your writing skills.
What are the Support Courses?
Support Courses are the courses, in addition to the courses required in the nursing program, needed to
graduate with a bachelor's degree from Ohio University. Courses equivalent to the requirements can be
transferred to Ohio University or these courses may be taken online or on an Ohio University campus.
Some of these course requirements will be met through the support courses required by the RN-to-BSN program.
How do I know which Support Courses I will need to take?
After you have submitted your application and sent in your transcripts, an academic advisor with Ohio University
will review your information and create a course map that is customized based on your specific needs. The course
map will be created in such a way as to ensure that you complete the program the most efficient way possible.
How do I know if I have completed all of the Support Courses?
In order to know exactly how many Support Courses you have completed you will need to have an official
transcript evaluation. To have your transcripts evaluated you must complete the Ohio University RN-to-BSN
Academic Outreach Initiative Program application and submit your transcripts. An academic advisor with
Ohio University will review your information and create a course map that is customized based on your
specific needs. The course map will be created in such a way as to ensure that you complete the
